Navigating Your Hearing

Assessment Journey: What to Expect Before, During, and After

Embarking on a journey to address your hearing health can be empowering! At our clinic, we prioritize providing comprehensive care, ensuring you are well-informed and supported throughout every step of the process. Here’s a guide on what to expect before, during, and after your hearing assessment appointment.

Before Your Appointment

Preparation is key to a productive hearing assessment. Arrive a few minutes early to register and bring your insurance details, a list of any current medications you are taking, and be well acquainted with your medical history. Having a supportive loved one or friend by your side can offer comfort during this process.

During Your Hearing Appointment

Once your patient history is completed, you will be given a hearing test. First, they will do a thorough examination of the outer ear, ear canal and part of the eardrum. Using an otoscope they will determine if any ear wax present will restrict testing. Next, they will evaluate the
middle ear where conductive hearing loss can be detected.

Lastly, your hearing professional will perform a pure-tone air-conduction and bone-conduction test, as well as a speech test.

You will be presented with a series of pure tones and asked to press a button or raise your hand to indicate when you hear the sound.

During a speech test they will ask you to repeat a list of words given at different volumes. The entire process takes approximately 20 minutes. Once the test is complete, your hearing professional will review the results with you immediately and answer any questions you may have.

After Your Hearing Appointment

Post-assessment, prescriptions and treatment recommendations may be provided. Take the time to review these plans, discussing expectations for your hearing health with your healthcare provider.

We emphasise the importance of sharing your results with friends and family to garner the support needed for your treatment or hearing aid journey. Book a follow-up appointment, and always feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns post-assessment.

Our commitment is not only to identify and address your hearing concerns but also to ensure you feel supported and informed throughout your hearing health journey. Together, we can work towards a clearer and more vibrant soundscape for you.
